CRASH SIMULATION of car back seat | ||
On behalf of Autoliv Mekan AB, Ingenjörsdata AB has done the crash worthiness assessment of a foldable back rest of a back seat. The back seat is of the type belt-in-seat, i.e. the belts have their upper mount point on the rear rest itself (and not on the C-pillar). The crash simulations were performed at various settings of impacting speed, dummy weight (referred to as the percentile of the weight distribution of a population) and type of payload in the rear (hitting the back side of the rear rest). The picture shows results at t=110 ms for a 30 mph impact with 50% dummies (US) in the seats and with three pieces of standardized luggage as payload behind the rear seat. The simulations entail almost all kinds of non-linearities, to mention but a few, elasto-plastic material with strain rate dependency, very complex and quite extensive contact conditions. The simulations were performed with LS-DYNA.
