On behalf of Bombardier Transportation AB, Ingenjörsdata AB has performed the calculations and assessments of a cast frame of a train bogie. The FE-model was built with solid elements and it has a total of around 480 000 nodes. The assessments, by FATEVAS, are according to Eurocode3 (prEN 1993-1-9). In the range of 50 load combinations were considered and the assessment concerned both the casting itself and the welds joining part-castings.

The first figure below shows calculated utilization factor for casting and the second figure shows ditto for welds.
